Alcohol induced creativity?

Does Alcohol facilitate creativity?

After a round of 3 beers life seems to peaceful, there's clarity of thought and worries seem remote ... music sounds better and clear, literature seems profound and existence seems deeper than apparent!

Anyways .. does alchohol induce creativity? Maybe it does by allowing you to focus, detach from things mundane and slowing down the speed of rotation of your mind !

I have 'written' often after imbibing alcohol .. if I were a writer (which I aspire to be some day), would I drink to be successful ... perhaps not. But as am amateur writer, it does seem that I am more capable of churning out stuff when I am a little 'high'

Apparently Saigal used to think he could not sing unless he was drunk! Someone proved to him that he could sing better when he was sober! Many a artists have made an excuse for drinking based on creativity induced by alcohol ... the latest trend is I guess taking narcotics. Unpardonable offences in the moral realm ... yet find many takers

How do you arrive at a moral judgement?

Conundrum of American Prosperity - An Explanation for the Believers

Conundrum of American Prosperity - An Explanation for the Believers

There is a large section of people around the world who believe that Americans don't deserve their high standard of living. While capitalism and to an extent imperialism can explain the current situation, it continues to confound believers who find it contradictory. After all, American lifestyle is amoral, hedonistic and against everything that a good follower of God is advised to do. Yet, they are the ones who enjoy the best the world has to offer ! Pious followers in India and other places suffer a wretched life of misery aggravated daily by their leaders. They continue to follow the 'good path' yet find themselves falling deeper into chaos, corruption, lawlessness and more importantly a valueless society. The population continues to rise and the situation gets worse. Why!

How could one go about explaning? This apparent contradiction has led many to view their religion with suspicion and believers have given in to disbelief. Many of the 'fortunate ones' who got to the American shores have dropped their religious beliefs like hot potatoes! Hindus have started eating beef without batting an eyelid or thinking twice about the three hundred thirty million Gods they are displeasing while Muslims have started drinking. Its even given rise to innovative thinking like 'Happiness is God. Pleasure makes me happy. Pursuit of pleasure is pursuit of God!' Vedic notions like 'Aham Brahmasmi' have been interpreted as 'I am the world. World is God. I am God. I make the rules, lets drink'! None of these explain the prosperity in America (or other western nations) and wretchedness in India, Africa and other places where people are so poor they cannot even imagine the sins that their more prosperous western colleagues commit everday!

But, there is a nice, succinct, cogent explanation of the apparent contradiction. The religions are not wrong, you need to see the picture in its entirety. According to Hinduism and other religions, man's actions in one birth are responsible for his situation in the next birth - that is the key to the conundrum. It can explain the economic and demographic trends!

In the last several centuries, the number of people who have been immoral, violent, hedonist and just plain crooked has exceeed the number of people who are not! Clearly, all of these people deserve to rot in hell or spend their next lives in places that cannot be very different from hell! And that perfectly explains why the populations of Africa, China and India are uncontrollably large and growing! It is the burden of last century's sinners from around the world! The people in Europe enjoy the highest standard of living, no wonder their numbers are falling. After all these are those few from all over the world who followed the high moral ground in their previous lives and got to spend their next birth (life) in Europe!

We have a unified theory that is based on religion and is empirically supported by the current social and demographic trends! Touche'

Where could this place be?

Dear Readers,

Try and imagine the places decribed below and take a guess on where these could be

A pantry or coffee room full of randomly placed copiers, printers, paper, pantry supplies, and yes a coffee machine. Two broken refrigerators with stains all over. Once in a while someone spills milk and it keeps stinking for weeks! Because, neither the refrigerators nor the pantry room has regular cleaning service. The work areas are not cleaned either! There are supply shortages, when there is coffee, there are no cups; if there are cups, there are no stirrers or sugar or something else. No this doesn't happen everyday but it does happen frequently. Recently a mouse was found near one of the desks and old-timers claim this is not an oddity. The work desks get cleaned only if the 'worker's clean, the office has no arrangement ...

Contrast that with another place ...

A spanking clean office, cleaned several times a day. Clean pantries with freshly brewed coffee replenished regularly. Work areas are cleaned daily by professionals and you could not spot a paper lying or food crumbs ...

I could go on and on .. the point is - where could these places be? Clearly, one of this is in a developing country and one in a developed, but is it clear which !!

The dirty office is found in many places in the New York City in the largest and most profitable Wall street companies and banks! The cleaner offices are the new generation offices in India! The 'workers' in the dirty offices earn average incomes of over $100,000, those in India earn a a fraction ...

It set a chain of thoughts in my mind about stereotypes, about the past and the future of United States, about what civilization means, about culture and lack thereof, about right and wrong, but most importantly about how little we know the world beyond our little pond!

Could mean something to all of you or perhaps nothing at all .. do think !
